The aims of this course are to 1) survey the core aspects of Slavic folklore; 2) understand what folklorists do and how their work is relevant to an understanding of culture; 3) explain and apply the major theories of folklore to samples of Slavic rituals, material culture and oral lore; 4) determine how cultural categories and structures are shared or differ between cultures; and 5) improve analytical skills through written analyses of cultural data. Prerequisite: C LIT 2010 or Advanced Standing.
