PSY 6520 - Clinical Practicum

Institution:
Southern Utah University
Subject:
Psychology
Description:
The clinical practicum uses a vertical team supervision format led by a licensed core or adjunct faculty member in the PsyD Program. Within this structure, students receive both individual and group supervision of clinical activities in the SUU Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic. Under the supervision of their faculty supervisor, students will provide direct clinical services to clients as they build and practice clinical skills. They will obtain hands-on experience administering assessment tools, conducting comprehensive assessment for a range of presenting problems, and providing individual and family therapy using several evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Opportunities for facilitating therapy groups through the clinic may also be available. In addition to managing a clinical caseload, fourth-year students will begin their own supervision efforts with junior students on their Vertical Team. The main goals of this course are to (a) help students continue conceptualizing the delivery of basic clinical services, (b) continue building the foundation they are using in their work with clients, (c) to help students accept constructive feedback related to their own clinical efforts, and (d) begin providing supervision to junior members of the Vertical Team.
