Description:
This class investigates the history of US covert action from the 1940s to the very recent past. Case studies explore the various dark arts'from election meddling to coups, sabotage to assassination'deployed by American policymakers in the large gray area between diplomacy and war. Using a wide range of primary sources, including formerly secret government documents, students will evaluate the medium and long-term consequences of these covert actions for the countries and people involved, as well as for the United States itself and the wider world.
