Description:

The course examines ethical issues that arise in light of new and emerging technologies. To do this, the course explores the theoretical foundations of ethics, including utilitarianism, deontology, virtue theory, social theory, and ethics of care. Students are asked to apply ethical reasoning to topics such as biotechnology, human enhancement, data mining, privacy, social media, virtual reality, algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation. ***COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs)*** At the successful conclusion of this course students will be able to: 1.Articulate through speaking and writing an understanding of important issues in technology ethics. 2. Apply ethical perspectives and principles to issues in technology. 3. Create a semester long project, demonstrating the development of critical thinking, analytic, and writing skills. FA
